As a British Protestant Christian missionary to China he was part of the Cambridge Seven, and later was responsible for setting up the Heart of Africa Mission which became the Worldwide Evangelisation Crusade (now WEC International).

His life was transformed by the grace of God while he was attending seminary and someone asked him to attend a Bible study. He gave his life away to others until the day he died. His story is one of great encouragement for believers today.
BULL Meeting – Games People Play: Performance
Posted by COM Blogger in Campuses, Resources on September 18, 2009
For our first BULL meeting of the year at Northwestern, Elliot Stokes opened our semester-long series called “games people play.” He started talking about the game we play of performing. We perform for God, we perform for other people, and it is usually done to build the kingdom of self.
He talked about the dangers of performing, why we perform, and the way out of performing. One typical response to our sin of performing for people would be that we need to now perform for God. That response only makes our problem worse. Rather we need to realize that Jesus performed for us, so we are free from our need to perform.
You can hear this talk here or download it from our iTunes podcast. We had a few problems with the audio at the meeting, so please excuse the short lapses in the talk.

We missed recording Andrew’s talk on regeneration, so we pick up with Charlie talking on conversion. He talked about conversion in terms of faith and repentance and looked at what it means to experience true conversion. His talk can be heard here
