Summer Beach Project Starts

Today at 4 PM we are expecting the caravan of disciples to arrive at SBP.  When they arrive, we will help them get registered, take their bags to their room, and enjoy pop-ice to help cool us off in this heat.  We have our first meeting tonight where Andrew Knight will talk about our theme for the summer, which is "exiles."  This comes from Hebrews 11:13, but there will be more on our theme in the coming weeks.  We will post pictures of move-in day within the next few days.

Summer Leaders Retreat

Leaders RetreatThis past weekend our leaders of our Summer Beach Project (SBP) and Cross Cultural Project (CCP) got together for some training on leadership for the summer.  We had talks on the “head” of a leader, how to lead a d-group, how to have a one-on-one, and how to teach someone to study the Bible.  We also had lots of hang out time to play games and get to know the other leaders that will be attending this summer.  One of the most exciting parts of the weekend for the leaders on the SBP is when they find out which team they are on for the summer.  The Team Leaders sent each group of room leaders on a scavenger hunt to find out who was going to be leading them this summer.  Andrew Knight, our SBP director, gave a talk the last morning on our theme for the summer that will be revealed broadly at a later date.  Overall it seems like everyone came away from the retreat with new excitment for the summer and what is going to do through the SBP and CCP.

Well, a 20-something Harvard dropout named Mark Zuckerberg has changed all that for us. Now, instead of it being weird or awkward to re-connect with your 5th grade Girl Scout friend or your 9th grade lab partner, it's ok—even cool—to do so. How did Zuckerberg pull it off? In 2004, he created a simple computer program to communicate with some of his college buddies. When it caught on at other campuses, he decided to open it up to all colleges, then all high schoolers, and finally the whole world! Affectionately known as Facebook, it is now the largest and fastest growing social network anywhere with over 175 million active users (adding 150,000 daily!) who spend three billion minutes a day cruising the site for more friends. Let me mention four quickies on how Facebook can become (to you—a support raiser) your new best friend:

1. Resurrect your “Namestorm List” Rethink all the hundreds of names you conveniently “forgot” about from your past lives and go back and write each one down. Don't leave anyone off!
