Life Training

Every Sunday morning, before heading off to church, we start our day with Life Training.

Which is what, exactly?

Probably what you would guess: talks about various life topics and what it means to look at the world through a gospel lens.

So...what topics?

Glad you asked!

So far, we have investigated subjects like “Free Time,” “Free Identity,” “Worry Free,” and “Free from the Love of Money.”

Obviously, there is a trend amongst these topic titles. Our overarching theme of “Free” is a topic that the staff and team leaders want to incorporate in each talk.

Cody Walkup and Patrick Rydeen are giving these talks now that staff are gone.

The point of Life Training is to dialogue about topics and equip us students for the years to come. College ministry, for most of us, is only a short season in our lives. We want to be a people who love Jesus and are walking with him for the rest of our days.

It is important, as well as practical, to address topics that everyone in our society faces through a biblical lens. We will all deal with things like handling finances, struggling with people-pleasing and body image, working jobs and making disciples in the workplace, and balancing between being over-committed and lazily idle.

That is essentially the point of life training. Once the talk is over, the floor is opened for question and answer time. We students are all struggling with different things, and certain topics really hit home for individuals. Q&A is an opportunity to ask the pressing questions that the talk hasn’t already answered. If the staff or team leaders do not have an answer, then the group collectively works to discover what the Bible says.

Although the Bible does not explicitly say, “This is how you should view working at Walmart this summer,” we can ask ourselves the question, “In light of what the Bible does say, how can we view working at Walmart this summer?” We can find Biblical truths to shape our worldview, and we can find Biblical truths to combat the lies we believe. When God is working in our hearts, the promises in the Bible change our perspective on everything.

FREE DAY

Since yesterday was the last day of work, many disciples jumped into the pool last night with their job uniforms on as a SBP tradition. Today is a free day and disciples are heading different directions. A good amount of disciples are visiting Charleston, others are going to be visiting North Myrtle, and some are just going to stay around project and enjoy the day.

16-17

Wednesday night, project had guys and girl's time once again. Disciples really enjoyed their time. Girls and guys met at their respective meeting locations and spent time asking questions to a pnel formed by team leaders. As for Thursday, after a long day of work it was show time. Guys had to perform a synchronized swimming routine for the ladies in order to win a group date for the night. However, because of a storm the show had to be stopped, nevertheless, every guy's room was paired up with a girl's room for the night.

Disciples are starting to work on cleaning. They have been given a list with the different tasks that need to be done before everyone leaves project.

As is true of today, the weekend at project is usually slow. Many of the disciples go on group dates or take naps, grinding activity at project to a near halt, which is fine for most who are drained from a busy week. After Life Training with Reid Jilek and services at their respective churches, disciples still have the time to pray for the world. So far, more than half the world has been pinned for prayer, as disciples fill a world map with tacks as they pray for each country. As pins fill up the world map, God's presence over the whole earth is awe-inspiring.

Sending the CCP off

Hi everyone. This morning the CCP group left project at 5:50 am. Some of the students sacrificed sleep  to say "good bye" and pray for them once again.

At Life training Reid Jilek spoke about "Holding Loosely to Your Schedule." Reid described the two extremes of being either over scheduled or laid back, and how there could be sin on both of these sides. Later on in the morning, students attended Church after life training.

Today, students at project are just relaxing with the goal to gain some energy before a new week starts. Enjoy the Highlights of the week.

Welcoming India Team

This morning around 1:30 am, the India Team arrived on project. Students are excited to spend about a week with this team by Elliot Stokes. Furthermore, this morning at Life Training, Reid Jilek spoke about "Holding Loosely to Family." He shared a little from his background and on how God has been working on his earthly family. His main focus was that "family is not the ultimate focus, God is." Reid reminded us of the importance of our eternal family.

Moreover, today we were informed with the sad news that Garden City Baptist Church, one of the churches that the students attend, was severely destroyed by a fire. It took about five hours to extinguish and much of the church has been burned down. Therefore, we would appreciate if you keep in your prayers our brothers and sister of Garden City Beach Baptist Church.

the day after father's day

This week's theme is "Heaven, Homecoming for an Exile."Matt Reagan started this week with a session on spiritual depression and doubt. The rest of the day was fairly slow but relaxing. Many of the disciples took naps or swam in the pool. Paul Poteat and Zach Simmons led Praise and Worship this evening, after which Jon Saunders shared and answered questions with some of the other staff members. Don't forget to check out the <week's highlights video> uploaded last week. There are two new recordings, one from <Life Training> and the other from the <Parent's Social>, along with a slew of other new content. Remember to join the <SBP09 fan page> on facebook to have these updates sent to your fb inbox.

Life Training - Holding Tightly to Jesus

Matt Reagan shared with us about how to deal with doubt and depression during Life Training on Sunday.  We should always look to Jesus, the object of our faith, rather than how we feel in a given moment.  Listen to the talk here [display_podcast]

Day of Worship

Today, Sunday, the project attended Church as usual. Moreover, this morning we had our third Life Training Seminar. Matt Reagan  taught about being free by God and enjoying the great things that He has made for our pleasure. After Matt shared what God gave him to speak, we were challenged by Andrew Knight to meditate and ask each other what things in our lives stop us from enjoying God freely, and the things that are in our power that we are abusing by our freedom.

week two

After a restful weekend, we are entering our second week of project, but here's a little bit of what went on this Sunday: During Life Training, Matt Reagan talked on "Holding Loosley to Money" and being free of the love of materials; and later in the evening, Rev Landers shared from 2 Peter 1 and answered questions that the disciples had, while some others went and worshipped God together. The rest of the time was spent in rest and fellowship. Today, most of the disciples have driven off to their respective jobs, or are vigilantly searching for other job options with the staff. After work, everyone will have dinner together and then head to Garden City Baptist (GCB) for Bible Study Training and Team Time.
